Christmas Around The World.
Christmas Around The World
We have been learning about how people celebrate christmas around the world. Today I learned how so many different people make so many different ways to celebrate christmas. Some of the ways are quite relaxed like Sweden's one. Sweden's is to attend parties, eat and drink. Their christmas food is cooked fish and rice porridge and some are a bit more complicated like Poland's one. I also learned many different ways to say happy Christmas or Merry christmas.
Chinese: Seng Dàng Kuailè
Swedish; God Yol
Japanese: Meri Kurisumusu
Portugese: Boas Festas
Mexican: Feliz Navidad
Italian: Buon Natale
For More ways to say it
We also learned about what some people leave out for Santa. most of them are breads and cakes. not the usual milk and cookies for Santa and carrots for the reindeer.
Australia: beer, cookies and carrots
United kingdom: pies and sherry
United states: cookies, milk, gingerbread, sugar cookies, chocolate chips, macarons
Chile: fruitcake

Lighthouse
For writing, we had to write a dialogue on a video about a man and a lighthouse. A dialogue a conversation for a play video or pantomime. Before we made our dialogues, we had to make a plan. For my plan, I just had a vague outline of what the characters would say.

Dialogue
“Woo Hoo!” yelled the villagers as the beacon’s light swept past the houses. “YEAH!”
The lighthouse keeper was inside the lighthouse writing on a piece of paper. “Oh, When would these annoying people Shut up?” he thought as he closed his window. Suddenly, there was a deafening CRASH!!! From above. His window flew open and blew out his candle. The lighthouse light had stopped!
“Huh?” said the lighthouse keeper.
“Huh?” said the villagers.
“Huh?” said the lighthouse keeper again.
“I’d better go up and check it,” said the keeper to himself.
“Hmmm…” the bulb had exploded. “I can't reach it, I’ll have to just take the magnifier off and get the bulb.”
There was a low pitched blooooo. “ No!” exclaimed the keeper “that’s a boat horn!” He was so startled that he dropped the part that magnifies the light from the bulb and it shattered into thousands of pieces. “I’m doomed.” thought the keeper.
Suddenly there was a knock on the lighthouse door.
“We are here to help,” cried the villagers.
As they climbed the lighthouse and held their light up, they could all swear that they heard someone say,
“Thanks! That was a close one!” from the boat.
Then, the lighthouse keeper whispered under his breath, “Wow, it is really nice to be with other people and become friends.”

The Pigeon Should Stay Up Late
For a few days, we have been reading a series of pigeon books. After that, we had to make a piece of opinion writing that says whether we are with or against what the pigeon thinks. Please give a comment about my writing that I have done below.
I am confirming in my head, that the pigeon should stay up late.
I am confirming in my head, that the pigeon should stay up late.
One of my many reasons to let the pigeon stay up late is for him to learn from the educational video about birds that he was talking about. He will hopefully learn about Hoatzin birds, Frogmouths, Scarlet-Iiwis, etc, etc. He will also not be able to watch anything else. Only the educational video about birds. Because he gets so bored of it, he might just start singing: Fish and chips and vinegar, vinegar, vinegar, Fish and chips and vinegar, pepper pepper pepper salt, don’t put your rubbish… wait a minute, that is going off the main topic. Go to the next paragraph. That is an order… NOW!!!
He’ll organise a Hotdog party and everyone will get Hot-dogs! The people that will be coming will be: all his toys, the bus driver, the one that needs to brush his teeth, and of course, the pigeon himself. (No! It does not matter that the bus driver and the man that needs to brush his teeth are the same person… He will just get double hotdogs!) And he will get tired from organising it.
The next reason, Is that he will fall asleep eventually. The reason why he will eventually fall asleep is that he would be very full from the hotdogs and also very tired from processing the fact and information from the educational video that he watched. It’s only 1:00 pm… in Alaska. He might just start singing again, Fish and chips and vinegar, vinegar, vinegar, Fish and chips and vinegar, pepper pepper pep… that’s going off the topic again!
Now the pigeon has not only found out what Fregatidae are (maybe). (Fregatidae are a fmaily of seabirds that are found in tropical and subtropical oceans.) but also that hotdog parties are not good for your health and falling asleep at 4:00 am will make you very cranky. Plus he has memorised the fish and chips and vinegar song!!! (from constantly singing it in his 3 hour sleep) Fish and chips and vinegar, vinegar, vinegar, Fish and chips and vinegar, pepper pepper pepper salt, don’t put your rubbish in my backyard, my… that is going off task again! Hang on, It is the end of the story, so it doesn't really matter.

Fire And Ice
For about 5 days, we have been writing a story based on a single picture. (Two if you count the picture that we had to draw). On the first day, we looked at the picture and brainstormed ideas about it. after that we made our own pictures based on what we think would happen next. on day 2, we made our hook and the first paragraph. on the third day, we carried on with my story. On the last day, we had to finish and publish our story.
A large, black, silhouette of a gigantic winged creature sat crouched near a small homey house. As it came nearer, the winged creature started to melt and then reconstruct into a different shape. In the dim light of the house, you could see that the creature was not winged anymore and instead, it was seaweed green, and it had 2 rows of teeth sharp as blades, had pink pustules on it’s feet and worst of all was it’s fingernails, they were rotten and yellow, as if 100 different types of nail fungi was living on it.
In the middle of the small house, sat a small, white kitten. The beast turned towards the kitten and lifted it’s foot as if to stand on top of the kitten. But, as it was about to stand onto the cat, something stopped him, it was like his body had a mind of it’s own. Before the monster had time to react, the kitten too melted and reformed into something else. The new shape of the kitten was like a large snowball (Snow-cat) , round about a foot tall. It had ice crystals on it’s head and small white feet. It also had a long, slender tail.
The beast was pushed back by a gust of cold wind. ‘This is what I am looking for’ it thought. After a sudden flurry of flames, they were whisked to a cliff. The beast had transformed back into a giant dragon. The colour of it was magma red. Then, the fierce battle started. There were giant blizzards and bright red pillars of flame occasionally blasted from near the dragon.
“Who are you!?” yelled the kitten / walking-snowball angrily. “I is Grinder-Iron” shouted an equally angry goblin / dragon with really bad grammar. The barbarous battle raged on. There were blurs of white and giant ice crystals appearing out of no-where and embedding themselves into the ground and whirlwinds of flames being thrown crazily in every direction.
The battle started to slow down. The pair were starting to lose their energy. And then collapsed onto each other. Then suddenly, the pair began to laugh. After they had regained their energy, the dragon make a small fire and the Ice-Cat found some wood and also some marshmallows that some campers had accidentally left behind.
After some roasting of marshmallows, the dragon and the Ice-Cat made a small house out of wood. And they lived happily ever after.
